I am a retired govt servant and live at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. I am a patient of acute hypertension. On 30th Jan,2012, I suffered chest pain and epigastric uneasiness and went to the nearest hospital on CGHS panel i.e. Fortis, Vasant Kunj. After treating me in the Emergency Ward, I was admitted in the CCU ward. The cardiologist prescribed certain tests including endoscopy. But I was asked to deposit Rs. 5,000/- for this test because under the CGHS rules, the hospital is recognised only for cardiological problems and not for gastro-related diseases. I refused to undergo this test on the ground that I will get it done from the recognised hospital for the purpose. But I was charged Rs. 900/- as consultation fee by the endoscopy-conducting doctor. Out of about Rs. 10,000/- for one night stay, I had to shell about Rs. 5,000/- because even under the cardiology treatment, some treatment was not covered under the rules. This is ridiculous. Hospitals in emergency should be recognised for all purposes and not only for a particular disease. There is no general purpose hospital in Vasant Kunj area. Even there is no CGHS dispensary and we have to go to about 5 kms to RK Puram. For pensioners it is a great deal of hassle.

In case a Pensioneer who is member of CGHS takes treatment at a recognised hospital with prior permission at a place where there is no cghs dispensary and has to stay there for follow up treatment in opd, in such cases cost of medicines purchased during opd should be reimbursed. Kindly consider this to avoid hardship to the Pensioners.

Sir, This is not a comment but a querry. I am a Central Govt. Employee residing at Mehrauli. CGHS card [Hauz Khas Dispensary] was issued to me during 2001. As those old card are replaced by the new plastic cards, my card stands invalid. The problem is, now when I had approached the authorities to issue me new CGHS card, they are simply refusing it stating reason that there is no dispnsary in the area of Mehrauli. Sir, I want to know what options are available to me at present. How can I avail benefits under CGHS and in case any expenditure is incurred by me then how it can be reimbursed.
