All through pregnancy, a fetus faces the threat of infection from a variety of microorganisms. While some can be fought off by a mother’s healthy immune system, others may result in a miscarriage or a stillbirth. Sometimes, infectious diseases lile rubella and HIV may also cause growth retardation and congenital defects in children.
