I am 31. I just had hydrocele surgery yesterday [8/7/12] on my left side. It was a little bigger than a baseball. I'm not gonna lie, I was freaking scared. However, my doctor's name was Patel and in the medical field I've come to realize anyone with the name Patel is a pretty damn good doctor (medical or dental) haha. Anyway, surgery was at 9 and only took like an hour. I had pain right when I woke up and they gave me morphine immediately. Now they won't let you leave until you can pee. This is the hardest part and the worst hassle. Don't piss before your surgery unless you are about to burst. Because after, no matter how much liquid I drank, I could not feel the need to go. *****Dont try to push it. I did and what followed was the worst pain I can remember in a long time. Finally after 3 pm, I squirted some urine out and they let me go home. I did not want a catheter!! Know this, as the night progresses you will be able to pee more and more. I had a totally normal piss at about 4am and emptied my bladder :) With the pain pills and ice packs and laying on the couch, there is no suffering. Walking sucks cuz of the gravity from your testicles hanging- even in the jock. I HAVE to go to work on SAT so I'm hoping for an improvement. But I'm about to change the gauze in the jock and clean myself with warm soap water. Like I said, I'm 31 and having a freakishly large testicle killed my game and confidence. So far except for the urine thing, it has been no big deal. Glad I'm knocking this thing out! Let me know if ya'll have any questions as my recovery progresses.

Wow, interesting and detailed account. I have exactly what you had. Years ago was put under gen. anasth. When I awoke, I could not piss either. When the nurse said he was to insert a cathader, I told him after I'm dead! Finally like you, started to piss. Re. the hydrocele, after ! 1.5 years, I got the courage to head to the ER next week. Would like yr reply if you read this. Congrats, and thanks!

Had a Hydrocele for years. My left testicle was the size of a large grapefruit, the right side looked like it had fluid around also but alot smaller. I had my operation last friday 5/10/12 both were going to be done but the surgeon decided only the large on needed doing as it was maybe pressing on the other to make that look bigger. Well anyway i had the surgery and had morphine when i woke up..nothing after or since and no swelling or bruising. I read swelling could be as big as the hydrocele itself..but no swelling for me.I put it off for years i wish i had it done sooner.

I have hydrocele frm last 5-6 yrs and it's painless. I want know what precautions I should take for avoiding further complications. Should I avoid going to gym, playing sports and adventures, bicycling etc?? Do these things cause any adverse effect??

usually jubolay's procedure is performed for hydrocele .. done under spinal anesthesia and the procedure has nothing to do wit with ur sexual function so dnt worry and get the surgery done before ur marriage.. long term complication are common in untreated hydroceles..
