Diet and nutrition

Diet and nutrition, or ‘what we eat’ is the science (and art!) of nurturing the human body to reach its full potential. As a field of study, diet and nutrition is garnering more attention these days even as scientists discover how much of our health really depends on watching what we’re eating.

Brainstorm for ideas on how to beat the challenges of living healthy, with professionals and lay people in our Diet and Nutrition Online Support Group.

Vitamin B9

Vitamin B9, or folic acid, is of great nutritional importance especially during gestation. Deficiency could result in macrocytic anemia and birth defects in newborns. Researchers have reason to believe that it can also slow down the effects of age on the brain.

Our support group can tell you more about vitamin B9, and their benefits.

Vitamin C / Ascorbic acid

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is one of the essential micronutrients. This vitamin helps bones, muscles, and blood to form and damaged tissue to heal. It helps the body to absorb iron and is an antioxidant. Inadequate levels of this vitamin has been linked to gum disease and high blood pressure.

Learn more by joining our online group on Vitamin C and talking to the experts.

Vitamin Supplements

While supplements should not be your main source of nutrition, essential nutrients derived from food can be complemented using synthesized vitamins. This section elaborates on the benefits of supplements as nutritional sources.

Our support group can tell you more about vitamin supplements, and their benefits.

Vitamin-F

Essential fatty acids are sometimes referred to as Vitamin F and are composed of two fatty acids - linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linoleic acid (LNA) - with linoleic acid being the most complete fatty acid.

Why Do We Eat - Nutrition Facts

There are two big reasons: building blocks and fuel. When you are growing, you are adding new building blocks to your body. Just like a car needs gasoline, your body needs fuel so that your muscles can move and your brain can think.

Zone Diet

The zone diet consists in getting calories from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats in a fixed ratio, usually 40:30:30. Advocates of the diet claim it helps people lose weight, develop muscle, and prevent heart disease and diabetes – and it is an easy diet to follow.

Join our online group on the zone diet and learn more by asking questions, getting answers from experts, and sharing experiences.
