Please be very careful how you report the facts of scientific studies to the general public. In your article, you state that the researchers from Rutgers University announce that "drinking tea" could cause chromosomal damage and fetal leukemia. I think if you check the original study, you will find that the researchers are referring only to the use of concentrated extracts of the catechins in tea used as supplements, not drinking tea.
Tea has been around and consumed for close to 4,000 years. The only thing that has changed since then is our tendency to take a natural product (botanical) that has tremendous health benefits when consumed in its original whole form, and pharmaceuticalize it. Unfortunately, americans tend to be very reductionistic in their thinking about things and want to reduce things into what they think is the single, quintessential ingredient that has all of the benefits. They never learn that you just can't fool mother nature.

Medindia normally reports scientific data as it is presented. Tea has been around for sometime and has only so far shown to have beneficial affects due to the aniti-oxidants in it. The cutrrent research needs validation before it can be accepted, hence readers should not just go by one such report.

I must agree with the previous posters. It is grossly unfair to compare drinking a cup of tea to using tea based supplements containing concentrated extracts of the catechins in tea. Visit http://www.your-cup-of-tea.com to learn about health benefits of tea.
