In all of 3months I had 3 lithotripsy procedures..which is a non evasive laser procedure. On my 3rd lithotripsy procedure the shock actually caused the stone to break into half and cause one half to go into my kidney. Therefore, I couldn't have a 4th litho done anymore and instead they had to go in and do a uteroscopy. They successfully managed to retrieve the little stubborn stone but let me tell ya..the complications after the procedure was like going thru the painful kidney stone ordeal all over again. They had inserted a stent up in my urethra and left it there for 5 days...on the 5th day I couldn't wait for them to take this damn thing out..it was causing me so much pain by my bladder. It was putting on so much pressure and literally I was urinating every 10-15 min all throughout the day and nite, not to mention my lack of sleep and painful back.I was miserable. I thought I would find relief the day they removed the stent but...god my nightmare was just beginning. Everytime I went to go pee...I screamed with pain..and usually my pee was just a dribble. I had extreme back pain, bladder pain, you name it I felt horrible. I finally called my doctor and told him the next day that I think things turned for the worst..he was actually surprised. Anyways...I quickly got on antibiotics, flomax cr-it's a antiinflammatory for men but I'm a woman, tylenol 3's and toradol-pain meds....It took 4 days for all the meds to do it's job but gosh never again do I want to go thru this experience.........I wish every patient out there..every success with his/hers procedures....and word of advice...tell your doctor right away if you don't feel right about something.
Still in recovery,
Barb

Hi Nurse, I just went through this whole ordeal and am still in recovery. If you have pain in your flank area moving down your side, potentially towards your bladder, I would definitely recommend making an appointment with a urologist. If it gets bad, go to the ER. They will probably do a CAT scan and find it that way. Also, if you notice a strange red/orange tint in your urine, that could be blood and is a sign of kidney stones. I had the same irritation and pain in my foot and down my left leg - it actually hurt to move it. Good luck - go to the doctors and drink LOTS AND LOTS of water. This will make it easier. Good luck.
