Food additives are substances added to food to make it tastier, or better looking, or stay fresh longer. Additives are widely used in food make in factories or commercially. To protect and inform consumers, the additives are assigned numbers and supposed to be listed in the packaging of the food.

Restaurant staffs are trained to cook and serve food and clean-up tables. They are not trained to handle incidents about food allergies. That's why it's up to the eater to be vigilant and responsible for the food eaten in the restaurant. Ask questions to avoid eating a food you have an allergy with.
