Depression

Depression in psychology and psychiatry refers to long term and persistent feeling of sadness, guilt, hopelessness and thoughts of death. A depressed person cannot just 'snap out of it' - he needs support from his family and friends, and sometimes counseling and medication can help too.

This online support group for depression will help you realize you are not alone - join up, help others going through the same road as you are, find help for yourself, and meet professionals who know about the condition too.

"It is a time when one's spirit is subdued and sad, one knows now why; when the past seems a storm-swept desolation, life a vanity and a burden, and the future but a way to death."

-Mark Twain

so sad

Depression is an awful disease that nobody understands. I'm so sad all the time and the pain is so great I can barely stand it. I'm taking medicines but they don't seem to be working. I wonder if life is worth living on some days.

I have to disagree with you. A great many people know about depression, and deal with it on a daily basis. Your depression is unique to you and so is the way for you to deal with it. I have been on several medications in the past few years, some helped, but the side effects were worse than the problem, some made things worse and others help but also had side effects. The challenge was finding the best balance of positive effect and negative side effects.

In your post you write I wonder if life is worth living some days.

Every day people decide that the answer to that question is no and take action. Nobody online can force you to do one thing or not to do something, but I personally have come to believe in HOPE (a concept that I didn’t always believe existed)

I have been far down in the pit of despair that I felt that it possible for me to climb out but there was no way. I couldn't even inch my way the slightest bit closer to daylight.

I’m still in that pit but I have clawed my way a long way up, and I have a long way to go. I will probably never climb completely out, but I have gotten to a point were things are far from great, but I can at least imagine getting to a place were my existence isn’t a constant source of discomfort.
