High density lipoproteins are lipoproteins that can carry cholesterol from the arteries to the liver for excretion. (Lipoproteins are the form in which fatty substances (lipids) are carried in the blood.) High density lipoproteins (HDLs) cholesterol is therefore the ‘good’ cholestrol.
