I was pleasantly surprised to read about the first artificial cornea being transplanted in India. I am a corneal surgeon and work at the Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital where we do have facility for corneal grafting. Our work is handicapped greatly due to non availibility of cornea for transplantation with the result many patients who could otherwise be cured remain blind. And those who need keratoprosthesis also remain blind because most of the corneal blind patients are poor and the cost of the keratoprosthesis is beyond their reach. The news about artificial cornea is encouraging but the cost factor will again be a hindrance . I dont know if the company manufacturing these aids could supply atleast a few of them free of cost to our patients so that we the doctors may learn the procedure and at the same time help these poor blind patients.

My wife is a corneal tranplant lat 2006. But unfortunately, the cornea is starting to be rejected.
I would like to inquire if she can be implanted with this artifial cornea. Is there a doctor in the Philippines who can do the procedure? And how can I buy this artificial cornea?
