Genetic and Metabolic :
Down syndrome / Birth Defects - Genetic

Down syndrome is a genetic condition that arises due to an extra copy of all or part of chromosome 21. Though Down syndrome cannot be cured and comes with a host of medical issues, people with the syndrome learn several skills during their lifetime. With proper medication, diet, training and care, many of them are capable of becoming independent and leading a normal life. With early health intervention, some individuals with Down syndrome are now capable of going for jobs and fending for themselves.

I am a widow and a mother (79 yrs) of a down syndrome son of 35 years old. I am from UP but moved to bangalore so that I can provide some vocational training and help to my son. Since my husband passed away it has been a challenge for both me and my son. He is still in shock and now expresses it in violence sometime. Please help me find a support group that can provide some guidance to me. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My brother aged 15 years has been suffering from down syndrome. He is somewhat better from his childhood. He has the ability to play cricket, carromboard and other activities. Has a good brilliancy. We gave him a treatment for his improvements about three months. The only problem we feel with him is he could not read and his speech is not clear. In my locality, the schools are not giving much care to these children. I would like to know the schools who are taking care of these children at Chennai which also teach them doing hand works, so that it may make his life better in future. Please do reply.

Hi,

I am 29 years old and a mother of a cute little boy who is 45 days old and is diagnosed with Down syndrome. He also had AV canal defect which needs surgical correction when he will be 3 months old. I am still coping with the news and am totally confused and scared and going through an emotional roller coaster. Please help me cope and help me with how should I proceed.
I read in most of the sites that early intervention is necessary. But how early? should I start some thing right away?

I desperately need help..
