Alcohol abuse, as described in the DSM-IV, is a psychiatric diagnosis describing the use of alcoholic beverages despite negative consequences. Alcohol abuse is sometimes referred to by the less specific term alcoholism.

This is a very relevant insight into a difficult problem. Should the Indian Government not ban giving license to sell alcohol on Indian highways, the shops being located conveniently near petrol stations. Most trucks stop in the evening near these shops for an hour to fill up their tanks and themselves. No wonder India has one of the highest death rates due to traffic accidents in the world.
