Even with a double digit growth of our economy, India is mainly rural based with >75% of population residing in villages. Ironically, 90% of qualified doctors are in the urban areas. It is not a wonder that most of the rural people have to depend upon unqualified persons for their immediate medical needs. The public should be weary if doctors have many degrees after their name. There should not be more then three to four degrees fro a doctor. A MBBS or MD takes about 5 and half years, a Post-graduate degree takes 3 years, a speciality degree takes another three years. Beyond this nothing more is reqd.
