Hi Kashif,
Low glycemic index foods are foods containing more fibre and less sugar and refined flour in very simple language.
They are whole grains, whole millets, vegetables, pulses, legumes.
Foods which take longer to get converted to glucose are low glycemic index foods. In such a case the immediate spike in glucose and hence insulin is prevented. This keeps the blood sugar stable and the other organs healthy.
Some foods may have a low gi but may be dense in carbs and thereby you have to pick up low gi foods as well as ensure limited carbohydrate intake in any meal.
So have small frequent fibre protein dense meals in order to keep your diabetes under control.
Ice cream is definitely not recommended. But you could have a very small serve along with nuts as a seperate meal occasionally to balance sugar levels.
