This study is a good reminder to all of us, to weigh the risks and benefits of procedures with our health-care providers. Another study published last year, showed that women who carry a certain genetic predisposition to breast cancer, have a four-fold increased risk of developing breast cancer if they have chest x-rays before the age of 20. Many of these x-rays guide treatment and may be lifesaving, but the equation of benefits versus risks should always be evaluated.
