Primary Amenorrhea

Primary amenorrhea is a condition when a girl has not started menstruating by the time she is 16, even though other signs of puberty, like breast development and the appearance of pubic hair, are normal. Besides hormonal abnormalities and other illnesses, low body weight or obesity, stress and rigorous exercise can cause primary amenorrhea.

I am 31 yr old, and I have amenorrhea. I would like to chat with someone that has the same condition. My doctors do not consider this to be important and just want me to use birth control. They are not interested in finding out the cause nor to help with the symptoms. Another perspective in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am new to this group and see no one has posted for a while. I have PA, I am 28 (almost 29) and have just started fertility treatments for the first time. I am doing Ovulation Induction (using puregon & pregnyl) and timed intercourse. I am currently on day 11 of injecting (CD15) and so far not much happening. I started on 50IU, then 75IU and after bloods/scan today was told to go up to 100IU. Has anyone been through this process before or is going through this process now? Any advice/ support would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi everyone! I am 35 years old with primary amenorrhea. I went to gynaecologist when I was 16 and I was told my uterus is as small as a baby's. So I was put on pills and had menstruation. But then I stopped when I stopped taking pills. Didn't really think of continuing taking pills because I am not planning to get married yet and have children. I am still single which I guess because I am afraid to get married and my future hubby wouldn't be able to accept my situation. But just 5 days ago I had menstruation by my own without taking any pills. It is not too much but it has been 5 days now that I'm menstruating. I feel so happy, I felt like I am a real woman now.

Hi I haven't been here in a few years becuz i basically gave up! But now I'm married and desperately would like to have a baby ST and I are trying to conceive! Here's my story----
I'm now 36 yrs old with primary amenorrhea. During my late teens to 20s I've been to countless doctors and was told I have tiny ovaries and infantile uterus. Did a number of blood work and ultra sounds etc but all the docs do is tell me I'll never be able to conceive. I was young never had a period a day in my life and was enjoying it. At age 27 I started looking into my situation doing my own research and decided I wanted to get all the possible options so I got referred to an RE I did some estrogen treatments and process to induce period first round didn't work the second try did. Unfortunately during that time I didn't have health insurance and the treatments would've been way too expensive out of pocket so I was put on bc. Fast reward at age 34 I began seeing a fertility specialist who told me hypothlamic. She put me on estrogen patch and estrogen pill vaginally. I stayed on it for a yr. My uterus got to normal size and significant improvement on the ovaries the left ovary is a sucker tho its very hard to find. During this time my then bf now husband a little younger than me in college and wasn't ready for children so i stayed on the estrogen therapy for another 6 months. I was able to move from osteoporosis to osteopenia. But was still broken hearted and kinda gave up again. My husband is in the military so we had to move cross country. We are now desperately ttc. I have an appt for RE in Feb but until then I still feel hopeless, n going out of my mind!
If there's anybody here with similar story I'd really like to get in touch. Maybe I'll feel less depressed abt it.
Thanks

That's great news. I'm happy for you! Have you. Have you had anymore natural periods? And Have you started with a RE or FS. I know exactly how you are feeling. The fear of not being accepted. Im encouraging you to not stress abt it. If you haven't already found one, you will eventually find that guy who loves you unconditionally and is willing to go with you on this journey.

Hello all, I am a 23 y/o living in the NYC area, and am becoming really lonely as the experience of going through PA is becoming harrowing. I have had multiple ultrasounds showing that my uterus is small, my estrogen is definitely low and I am at risk for osteoporosis, and I am afraid if I ever get into a relationship, I will be shunned by the guy/ his family as I am not a "normal woman." What can I do? I have no one to talk to about this so it is a super embarassing situation that I wish no one ever had to go through. It is getting harder and harder to deal with all the doctors visits and the humiliation surrounding the fact that barely anyone has this disorder. Please send advice or what to do to deal with this tough time as I am a . Muslim girl whose parents want her to get married but I am sure no guy will be ok with the fact that I may not be able to have kids.

Hi Malib,
First let me just say you're not alone. The are many who are like us out there. When you find that special ive if he truly loves you then he'll def understand and stand by you throughout this journey.
I too was diagnosed with PA many yrs ago, was osteoperotic but with treatment I was able to go from osteoporosis to Osteopenia. I saw many many doctors whi told me I'd never be able to get pregnant. I did countless tests, ultrasounds, mri the whole 9yards. Long story short I decided to see one more RE in may of this yr, whi did the same amt of tests and in the end told me he wasn't very optimistic becuz I had zero follocs in my ovaries. He started me on a medicated cycles to see if we could stimulate my ovaries to produce. I stimmed for 23 days and halfway through i begged to doctor to continue ny treatment even tho i want responding to the meds. On the 24th day I had 1 single follicle measuring 16mm and i triggered that day. My scheduled iui for canceled becuz it fell in the weekend so instead my DH and I did timed intercourse. In july of this yr I got a positive preg. Test however i miscarried shortly after. Did a second medicated cycle this time I had 4 mature follicle and applegarth others close to being matured. Another timed intercourse and in September I got another passive I'm currently 13weeks pregnant praying all goes well.
I shared bits and pieces of my story to let you know that there is hope. I recommend you go see a RE so they can put you on HRT in the meantime. And once tippy and your partner are ready to have children then tou can proceed further. If you ever need to talk im here . Good luck in your journey.
