Primary Amenorrhea

Primary amenorrhea is a condition when a girl has not started menstruating by the time she is 16, even though other signs of puberty, like breast development and the appearance of pubic hair, are normal. Besides hormonal abnormalities and other illnesses, low body weight or obesity, stress and rigorous exercise can cause primary amenorrhea.

Primary Amenorrhea related to genetic problems or other problems?

Hey everyone,

So I have a long story...but the short version is that I was diagnosed with Primary Amenorrhea when I was 17. At that time my family and I found out it was in connection to a genetic translocation, which happend when I was being formed.I still have all the appropriate genetic material just some is switched around.

As of today, (3 years later) I finally got to seek a genetic counsler that gave me information about the future, and chance of having children.

I found out that my Primary Amenorrhea would lead to Premature Ovarian Failure, with the potential to lead to early age Osteoporosis.

I also found out, as expected that unless I intend to spend a huge quantity of money it will be very hard for me to have children.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody else has found simmilar problems? Or found the Primary Amenorrhea to be related to anything else?

Hi there,

I actually have something similar.

I was 15 when I found out that I have primary amenorrhea. My reason seems to be that the cells of my ovaries were not formed correctly during development and consequently I have no eggs. I can only have a period if I take birth control and I get massive migraines about once a month and have been told that there's a chance my ovaries can actually form tumors if I don't watch them carefully. Other than that, though, I have a normal uterus and vagina and everything else.

I've been dealing with this for the last 12 years. I don't particularly want children, but if I ever wanted them, the only way I could have them is via IVF.

I have a theory that, because my father worked in a chemical plant while my mother and father were trying to conceive, that his sperm became dysfunctional and I'm the result of that dysfunctional sperm.
