Hib Vaccine

Hib vaccine protects against the bacteria H.influenza. The protozoan is known to cause severe types of bacterial infections like meningitis, pneumonia, and swelling of the throat. It is easily communicable through sneezing, coughing, and secretions from an infected person.

1. How effective is the vaccine?

Hib vaccine taken according to the schedule gives protection to 99 % children.

2. Where can I get the vaccine?

You can get vaccinated with the general practitioner or a pediatrician.

3. Once my child receives Hib vaccine, will he ever get meningitis?

Hib vaccine protects only against the meningitis caused by H.influenza. Since meningitis is also caused by other viruses and bacteria, there are chances that the child might develop meningitis from other infections.

4. Can the vaccine cause meningitis or pneumonia?

No. Hib vaccine will not cause these diseases.
