dear sir: It appears to me that if a number of democratic senators held out for special deals or earmarks for their particular state, it was to the detriment of everybody else's interest. Thus, if certain democratic senators would have withheld their vote so as to allow the single payer option is to be fully discussed, costed out, and given a full hearing, then everybody would benefit; it would be budget neutral; 95% of the people would pay less than they currently do; everybody would be covered; and ALL possible solutions would have received a full hearing. Lastly, several states wouldn't benefit at the expense of everybody. It is obvious that Congress, regardless of party affiliation, doesn't exercise fiscal responsibility nor does it allow all possible solutions to be heard.
