I am ashamed to call myself an Australian, in view of the shameful treatment of this family at the hands of our immigration department.
Just yesterday my father related to me a story about a young man with down's syndrome who used to stand in the garden of his home and wave to passers-by in the Bankstown area, who would often be seen to happily respond. Who knows how many lives this man touched for the better! My father related how he had missed the man's friendly wave, as there came a day after which he no longer appeared in his usual place at Bankstown.
Many with this syndrome are now terminated or left to die after birth, besides the discrimination they and their families have to endure, though it is evident that those who are permitted to live contribute so much to our 'perfect' lives.
