Australian colleges and universities:
Pls provide more information to overseas students on how to be alert and protect themselves from being attacked by strangers. They are too innocent, and too weak or not capable at all of defending a kinife armed man. It should not happen. I have seen another Chinese student (from a poor family background) has successfully got his mob phone back from an attacker armed with a knife. This 17 yrs old boy (no English at all) just confronted the attacker with his fists, the attacker soon returned the phone and escaped. Very easy!!!
The lesson to be learned is: Most of attackers are not strong at all (Not easy to get a gun, while everyone can get a knife, right?). But the victims are too weak minded, not brave at all. 4:1 they could have won this battle, but they lost. Very sad truth!
Advice to international students follows: Keep your mind open, be aware of that anything may happen around you. Get ready to protect yourself all the time. Do not be misled by migration agents's over possitive advertising of beautiful Australia and friendly people. It is quite normal, when economic goes down, crime rate goes up. It's very surprising that four young people were controlled by one man and nobody could try to ring 000 for help. They might be too shocked to remember what to do. As we can see, overseas students are lack of security education. Pls provide more of these info in their orientation classes!!
