The LASIK doctors who conducted this study failed to mention that large numbers of "satisfied" patients have complications such as chronic dry eyes and impaired night vision. I researched the medical literature myself to find the truth about satisfaction after LASIK. What I found is an alarming percentage of patients who report being satisfied with their visual outcome are experiencing complications -- in the double digits.Basically the problem with evaluating LASIK outcomes is that results are based soley on the eye chart without regard for side effects or complications. A patient may be able to read the 20/20 line after LASIK, yet face debilitating night vision impairment and chronic painful dry eyes, and still be considered a success.
