Yes Medical tourism is the future and particularly India’s private healthcare system has made tremendous progress. The availability of low cost - high quality medical care at the state of the art, internationally accredited hospitals like Wockhardt Hospitals Group - which is a part of Harvard Medical International is poised to make India a "global healthcare destination"

last year I went to India for hip surgery at Wockhardt Hospitals and my whole experience was really positive. The only option otherwise for me was to mortgage my house and raise money for surgery at local hospital. So many US patients are now taking this option, just check out testimonials on following weblink

With 45 million uninsured Americans and the number rising by the day, medical tourism offers an affordable option which anyone can take advantage of without the burden of paying off debts. India offers state-of-the-art facilities, modern equipments and surgeon expertise which rival those found in any state-of-the-art hospital in the US. With outstanding nursing care and a great place to recuperate, all at a price which is a fraction of what it would cost you in the US, India is definitely making its mark in the medical tourism business.

Independent international hospital accreditation undertaken by a reputable group without a vested interest in the outcome is the key to helping to maximise patients' safety. There are excellent British (Trent) and Australian (ACHSI) groups undertaking such accreditation work, so it is not just down to a hospital having accreditation sourced from the USA by the American-based private accreditation company JCI. It may be that patients from the UK, Europe, the USA or Australasia will feel safest in the best of the "medical tourism hospitals" if those hospitals (including their healthcare staff) have been surveyed and accredited (if they pass !) by more than one reputable international accreditation scheme.

I've heard mixed reviews of medical tourism. Is plastic surgery really safe in Thailand? Are Indian doctors qualified
