What a sad state of affairs when every day on the side of the road I see fatalities and have had close frinds die as a result of the way people drive here in New Delhi.
When is the goevernment going to take a stand instead of a kick back and do something about the problems that face this country???
For a country that want to be taken seriously as a modern nation should you not be focusing on the basic structure of a city???

When are the local trafic police going to stop filling there pockets with false traffic violations and bribes and start to do the job they are supposed to and control these speed demons, bus drivers, young kids doing 160km per hour in busy dangerous traffic zones?????

Shame on you Mr Police man and shame on Delhi Government

There is no road safety agency in this country, so responsibility for it is brushed off from one authority to the other. Roads are built without pedestrians and cyclists in mind despite the fact that 50% of trips are taken by these means. As an afterthought, after a few hundred 'road kills' such as those on the Gurgaon Expressway the politicians promise foot overbridges and subways. Generally they exclude the disabled, cyclists and those with heavy bags and always they involve at least ten times the amount of energy to be used per metre travelled because of the steep gradients to be climbed. If you asked a car driver to travel ten times round a roundabout before she could leave you might get a strange look, but you'll ask a pedestrian not to use the road and expect him/her to just accept it.
