Environmental Birth Defects

Some birth defects are caused by factors in the environment of the fetus or the mother. These can include things like a rubella infection, which are difficult to control, and maternal alcohol abuse, which are totally preventable. Exposure to certain drugs, radiation, and diseases can cause environmental birth defects in the baby.
