Dengue / Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever / Dengue Shock Syndrome

Dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever are illness caused by a viral infection that spreads through the bite of the Aedes mosquito. The main symptoms are fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain and rash. Sometimes there may be bloody diarrhea or vomiting, and bleeding from mucous membranes and the gums.

Treatment of thrombocytopenia in Dengue ( URGENT !! )

There are nearly 50 cases of Dengue in my hospital . Can Whole blood be given for treatment of low platelet count in dengue ?

If you are have platelet concentrate give it if platelet count is less than 20000 or if platelet count < 50000 with bleeding manifestation.
In case your blood bank is not having facility for blood component therapy than you can use fresh whole blood i.e. blood collected as soon as possible within hours.
