AIDS/HIV

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), is a disease which destroys the immune system and makes the affected person vulnerable to opportunistic infections and tumors. There is no cure for AIDS, but modern multi-drug therapies have been successful in helping people with AIDS manage the disease.

No HIV Testing kit can 'Prevent' anyone from getting
transmitted with HIV. Universal Health Precautions are
the only and simple way to prevent transmission in hospitals. If
the JDA of Indore is
demanding for testing kits then I think they need to undergo
training programme on HIV/AIDS. But its possibile that they are misquoted and are in fact asking for Post Exposure
Prophylaxis facilities. Even after adherence to
Universal Health Precautions some 'accidents' do take
place and hospital staff get exposed to HIV. In such cases it is right of every
employee of that medical setting for PEP. If any staff members who
come in contact with body fluids of the patients
demand for PEP facility in the hospital it should be
viewed as a valid demand. But this
should not be contribute to 'demonisation' of HIV.
Universal Health Precautions are necessary and if
followed properly ( with people with HIV or
even otherwise) prevents transmission of several
infections. Secondly its time doctors stop threatening the nation.
