Description : Here is a case study of a deserted Dalit woman who transformed her life by herself. Ms.S.Jayamma aged 35 years married to Mr.S.Christopher of Chowtkur village at the age of 12 years. She was with her husband for 2 years only. Her husband deserted her due skin disease that she got. He has not provided her treatment nor cared her. Then her parents brought her to Nannur and kept with them. Now, both mother and father died. She is alone. No one is there to take care of her. She used to go for agriculture labour work, which is seasonal and uncertain. During un-season, she used to face a big problem to feed her-self. She desire regular income and want to live on her own legs.
SERUDS provided her an opportunity to develop her skills in their tailoring center organized at Nannur village. She was provided a USHA sewing machine by SERUDS with support from GIVE INDIA. Now she is undergoing 6 months training in tailoring & embroidery. She got confidence to live on her own legs with this training programme. She already started to stitch jackets, petty coats; saree falls etc. and earning for her food. She is looking for financial support for doing cloth business costing @Rs.10000/- for additional income.
SERUDS appeal the philanthropists to support her genuine cause and provide her working capital for doing cloth business.
