i will start from your last question. Lasik on one eye wouldn't affect the other eye. Lasik deals with the lens of the eye , which is away from the retina. But ...

Actually my grandpa doesn't have a healthy cornea..he had got one of his eyes operated successfully but he has 80% retinal detachment in the other one. He is 86...
