With regard to your treatment I would like you to understand the following facts:
1.The doctor having diagnosed duodenal ulcer with the help of endoscopy has started you on lanzoprozole to heal the ulcer
2.Having started the therapy the best course would have been for you to recheck if the ulcer has healed with endoscopy after about 6 weeks of therapy.
3.you could have supported the therapy with life style modifications to prevent recurrent ulcer formation like having small frequent meals, avoiding spicy food, and exercising regularly to relax and to cope with stress.
4. Having used for 5 months you could stop the drug now.
5. You have mentioned about IBS, do you suffer from Irritable bowel syndrome, where the symptoms are alternating loose stools and constipation.
