hi sonig,
thanks for the query.
Amoxycillin presenting in Augmentin is passes through the breast milk but it is considered to be safe to the baby.
It is not surely known whether potassium clavunate passes through the milk but even it passes, it is considered to be safe according to some books.
Studies in animals are showing no teratogenic effects, but there are only limited studies in humans.
The recommended dosage is around 25mg/kg/day. So she can take the dose recommended by your doctor.
But you have to be cautious about some side effects that can be seen in some babies like, diarrhea or allergic reactions which can occur if baby is sensitive to pencillins. It can be seen in children even though their mother is not sensitive to pencillin medication.
If these symptoms are seen let your wife stop the drug and consult the doctor.
take care.
