As such rubber band ligation has no complications if done properly and in stages But the pain that patients develop even when a margin of skin in involved has made the procedure not so popular and with advances in Management of Haemrrhoids this modality is getting less and less popular ; now the best evidenced based procedure called " DOPPLER GUIDED HEAMRRHOIDAL ARTERY LIGATION " is available and gaining international momentum Any further queries welcome Dr Kukreja www.ratandeep.com

If only 2 piles are tackled at a time and sensitive skin is not included in the banding, there will be no complications. If one attempts to band all three piles, the resulting raw areas may join up and later produce narrowing of anal canal. If sensitine skin(part of external pile) is included in the rubber band, it could be very painful; can produce severe sphincter spasm and urinary retention. Have been doing banding for over 15 years and found it very useful and effective. Dr. M.Mohan Rao,MBBS,MS,FICS,MCH, M.D. & Chief Surgeon, Dr. U MOhan Rau Memorial Hospital, Chennai.
