I saw a TV special about "Medical Tourism" in India and elsewhere. I am looking for any advice and information regarding what would be the average cost per day for hospitalization for an elderly stroke victim, besides physiotherapy costs, and if I should consider any other hospitals other than the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals? My friend is 84 years old and has had a number of strokes. His medicare coverage runs out in 2 days and he is being moved to a less costly nursing home where he will hopefully get occasional physiotherapy for $160 US/day. He also needs a hearing aid, and it is difficult to communicate with him because of his hearing loss and difficulty in speaking. He has made slow but good progress in his physical and speech recovery, but is still on a feeding tube, cannot walk very far, and cannot speak very well. We believe this is because of less and inadequate care at the nursing home. He is mentally sharp and motivated to get better, and it is a shame that they are not giving him a chance. I would deeply appreciate any help regarding treatment which he should be able to afford. We can get him on a plane to India soon! His only other alternative is to waste away in a nursing home until his savings are gone. Hence I'm looking for any information on average costs of in-patient hospitalization for an international elderly patient requiring stroke rehabilitation therapies, as well as any suggestions regarding hospitals, etc.
