Yes , lasik depends on the age of the person and his general health and overall eye condition. In old patients , there may be an accompanied disorder as : hypertension or diabetes that will affect the retina of the eye and surely will affect the opinion of the ophthalmologist whether to do a lasik surgery or not. Better go to a specialized ophthalmologist.

Actually my grandpa doesn't have a healthy cornea..he had got one of his eyes operated successfully but he has 80% retinal detachment in the other one. He is 86 yrs old. How about getting the other eye operated?? do you suggest this??? what can the Complexities be??? also please let me know if getting this eye operated might affect the vision of the operated eye too?

i will start from your last question. Lasik on one eye wouldn't affect the other eye. Lasik deals with the lens of the eye , which is away from the retina. But the decision will be taken by the ophthalmologist according to the previous treatment or surgery done for the retinal detachment , if there is also associated hypertension or diabetes. i suggest you go to your ophthalmologist , he/she will confirm the decision.

So, I understand that the operation of one eye(left eye) will not have any detrimental effect on the other eye with good eyesight. I had heard somewhere that the optic nerves of the eyes might be connected.
