Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition affecting the prostate gland in men over 40 years. It is caused by hormonal changes that result in prostatic enlargement. However, it is not associated with any form of cancer or infection. For further information on the disease, join our support group on BPH and learn the symptoms and treatment options of the disease.
Do you know why BPH is so called? Because, the prostate keeps on growing and is a common phenomenon. Infact there are 2 bursts of growth for prostate, one during puberty when the prostate almost doubles its size and the then from age 25 years onwards. Only when the enlarged prostate compresses on the urethra and causes symptoms does it require intervention
