When a kid has fever, apart from giving him an anti-pyretic and the specific treatment that the condition requires, I always advise that Jeera (cumin seeds) which is always available in Indian households in the 'masala tin', should be grated and applied to the forehead of the child.
Jeera is a "teevra vata-nashak" and has coolant properties as well, and its application to the forehead cools the head and also helps to bring down the fever, fast.
