1. How soon after infection will the symptoms of Chagas disease develop?

Symptoms of Chagas disease may begin within a few days to a few weeks after infection. But in some people it does not develop until the chronic stage of infection which is after 10 -40 years after infection.

2. Once infected with trypanosomiasis will a person develop immunity against it?

No one is immune from trypanosomiasis. Even if a person has the disease once he can get re-infected.

3. Is there a medication to prevent trypanosomiasis?

No, there is neither a vaccine nor recommended drug available to prevent Chagas disease.

4. How common is Chagas disease?

Worldwide, an estimated 16 to 18 million people are infected with Chagas disease. Of those infected an estimated 50,000 die each year.
