A snippet of article
A study done by the International Institute of Population Sciences has found that rural youth are more likely to indulge in pre-marital sex than urban youth. The study revealed that 17% of men in rural areas engaged in pre-marital sex compared to 10% in cities.
The corresponding number for women was 4% in rural areas and 2% in cities.
Data analysis:
17% of men in rural areas engage in pre-marital sex where as only 4 % women do so
Hopefully I am considering heterosexual sex even if we eliminate 5-6 % in the homo category , which I personally feel is an exaggerated number.
12-13 % of rural men population = 4 % of rural women population meaning there are more women in India than men which negates the numbers from the census unless of course u take into consideration that the same women copulate with more men, thereby a one to many relation being followed, which again I think is highly exaggerated
I, however, wonder why such articles do'nt explain the figures they so easily throw around as facts or survey figures.

If most men who have pre marital sex do so with women who are married then the lower percentage [4%] for women makes sense,

Dear sir ,
i agree with you on the account that these numbers are misleading and also from the look of it, it seems more of a flashy story than a educating one... might be to make readers enticed... and increase the page count...which seemed to have worked on both of us...
Regarding an explaination for the stats.. might be [ again a pure speculation ] .. the 17% of male might be equal to 4% of the female population that have taken the survey" ... hence the confusing numbers...
Again the article its not specified why the survey was done .. or what was the aftermath... now i doubt the

The skewed ratio of 17% for men and 4% of women is because male youth in the villages are more likely to go to brothels for paid sex, especially taking into account the states that have been surveyed.
In villages, contradictory to the cities, it will even be an issue if a boy and a girl unmarried are spotted together.
I presume, incest is more of an issue in these places.
