Pagets disease of the breast

Paget’s disease of the breast is a condition in which the nipples become inflamed, encrusted and bleed, because of underlying breast cancer. It affects about 2% of women with breast cancer, and it is sometimes confused with skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema.

Race does not play a major role in the occurrence of Pagets disease. However, a positive medical history related to cancer or more specifically breast cancer could be a major risk factor for Pagets disease.

2. What role does alcohol play in the development of Pagets disease?

Recent research shows that alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer, which indirectly increases the risk of Pagets disease by 4%.

3. What is the incidence of Pagets disease among men?

Pagets disease affects mainly the women population but in rare cases (1%) affects the male population also.

4. Is Pagets disease curable?

Yes it is 100% curable. Institution of treatment becomes progressively difficult in case of a relapse or recurrence.
