Speaking as an RN in the US, I can tell you that the idea of a nursing shortage is a lie. We do not have a nursing shortage. We have an obsession with healthcare. Most RNs have already noted this. We have also noted that the majority of Americans have no desire to take care of themselves (quit smoking, loose wt etc....) or their family members. RNs that work in other fields probably chose to be there because it makes them happier and RNs who are retired have earned that right. Nursing, at times, is hard labor. I always find it amusing how so often people act like nurses are community property. We are not. We have the right to choose other professions. And many of us are doing just that. People should take care of themselves and accept the mortality of themselves and their loved ones. Then you will see a decrease in the "nursing shortage."
