Western researchers seem to have a penchant for discovering scientific evidence for facts that India already knew and has been practicing since ancient times. For e.g, the significance of mother and infant bonding in the field of early intervention, medicinal value of turmeric, and now the latest finding-the absorption of Vitamin D through exposure to sunlight. Almost every Indian parent massages her child with warm oil and lets the baby soak in sunlight for sometime before bath. An infected wound or a boil gets a hot poultice pack of flour mixed with turmeric and oil which drains the wound and promotes healing. The new born is in close contact with the mother's body throughout the day and is not 'separated' in his/her nursery. This promotes child's emotional well being.
