Australian international reputation has been damaged in many aspects: war in Iraq, immigration policies, and questionable treatment of refugees. Haneef's case has internationally revealed that the rule of law in Australia can be overthrown by political conspiracy, a person charged without sufficient evidence, court's decision disrespected and, practically, cancelled by police and politicians. Furthermore, there are other cases of proceeding with criminal charges without sufficient evidence, such as Ben Cousins' in Western Australia and Vincent Berg's in Queensland. It seems that the rule of law and respect to legal evidence and individual human rights are in danger of being replaced by "witch hunt" practices.
