I live on the wirral Merseyside and face the threat of toxic ships being broken up in the former cammell lairds ship yard.Friends of the earth have given their support to this possible enterprise and give the committtee set up to bring these death ships in.while I understand the point that they'd prefer them to be broken up under strict health and safety conditions unlike those in Alang in gugarat that still leaves the major problem of disposal of these toxic substances such as asbestos on average over a thousand tonnes per vessll, PCB's again in the high hundreds of tonnes and heavy oil still in the engines or tanks. It is a recipe for disaster. Most of these ships will come from countries that have the facilities to break theese ships up. And thats where they should be broken.
I'd appreciate your comments on the above
Yours in solidarity
