Shared decision making (SDM)has shown positive impact on outcomes.SDM is patient centred. Several studies report lower medical errors, reduced medical costs via reduced avoidable investigations & higher patient compliance. SDM is particularly useful in managing chronic illnesses like diabetes.

However, SDM is reported to work well with educated patients. studies show SDM improves patient's knowledge thus helping to better manage their chronic illnesses. In fact it is mutually beneficial to both patients and clinicians.

Closer examination of studies reported in several journals like Health Expectations, Health affairs, Jrnl of Internal Medicine,British jrnl of cancer,Social science in medicine etc. reveal my above stated points.
