Savitha, please read and understand the BLF report before publishing "News" like this. While the title of the report is "The impact of cannabis on your lungs", the body of the report refers solely to the effects of SMOKING cannabis. While cannabis smoke does contain more carcinogens than tobacco, so will the smoke of ANY plant matter that has a higher moisture content than dried tobacco. This is simple chemistry. The studies that have been properly designed and statistically analyzed have found, at best, a weak association between long-term cannabis use and cancer; and at worst, either no effect or even a positive effect on lung cancer. To state, as you have, that the risk of lung cancer is 20 times higher than tobacco is an outright lie that does NOT stand up to scrutiny. The need of the hour is NOT to waste public money "warning people against cannabis use"; the need is to educate people on how to use it in a manner that does not result in lung [or indeed any other] damage - i.e., either don't SMOKE it- or if you do, don't inhale deeply and hold it. Don't drive when high, don't use it often and in high doses, don't use it if your family has a history of mental illness, and don't use it if you are not an adult. I have a 9 year old and 7 year old, and when the time comes for this conversation, I will not lie to them - they get enough of that from the news media, police and government agencies. No drug (or activity is without potential negative effects - the key is to understand and manage them appropriately.
