Hi...Was wondering if anyone can help me...My cousin Was in a coma for almost 1month he was on life support. He is now out of the coma and is breathing by himself..the doctors suspects he can see and he is also moving a bit and reacting to pain. His case was more serious he got attacked and had a sinus infection the doctors sent him home with antibiotics and they was not meant to they should have treated it there and then the fluid from the infection then went to his brain and caused him to go into a comba he had major brain operation. Basically i was jus wondering if anyone knows of anyone who has got thru it who has been able to do things by theself again...He has a daught who is 3months who he has not seen yet and I jus hope he gets the chance to watch her grow...Please get back to me thanks.

My mom and I went to visit my uncle, who is currently in a coma, at the hospital two days ago.
My mom was talkig to him telling him that she and myself were in the room and we came to visit with him. I asked my mom if I could touch him because I wasnt too sure. So i stood there and rubbed his arm telling him that it was me Frosty (a nickname he had given me) and that I love and miss him. After that his heart rate went up 3 to 4 beats and then went back down. My mom had touched him and nothing had happened.
Later on as we were about to leave I rubbed his arm again telling him goodbye and that I loved him. His heart rate had gone up again.
What I would like to know is: Was it possible that his heart reacted because he knew I was in the room and he understood what I was telling him?

Tabatha52, It is very common in coma patients that they can still hear. It is unsure that they can understand. But hearing a voice or name can trigger something in the brain that can indeed increase the heart rate. I always tell family members to always talk to the patients, can they can still hear!

Just recently my uncle and two cousins were involved in a car accident. They were test driving a car they had been working on for as long as i can remember, and something messed up with the steering. They were in a collision with an SUV.
One of my cousins had passed away. He was only 19 years old. My other cousin has suffered from a concussion and a broken leg, and my uncle has a severe head injury and is in a coma. At first he was responding to the tests, but over the two day period of my cousins funeral he wasnt. As soon as the funeral was over he began responding again to the tests and verbal commands. Is it crazy to think that he was visiting with my cousin that passed away during the two days of the funeral?
