Cold Sores/ Fever Blisters / Recurrent Herpes Labialis

Cold sores are tiny and painful blisters filled with fluid. Triggered by a virus, they generally appear around the lips, nose or mouth. They are also known as fever blisters.

Let me share some of the interesting things that I read on how these names originated. Herpes refers to word crawl or creep. Herpes labialis is so called because the lesions also form one by one in a creping fashion. Since these lesions occur when the person has fever because of his decreased immunity it is called fever blisters . Cold sores denote to the way in which it precedes a cold attack.
