It's coming up to the 3rd anniversary of my loss of sense of smell, which I leared through this website is called anosmia. I believe this happend to me after contacting the worst head cold when a student of mine sneezed on me. Since then, the cold symptoms were relieved through antibiotics, BUT my sense of smell NEVER returned. I haven't yet met anyone else who suffers from this annoying condition! It has really impaired my overall quality-of-life! HELP!!!

I have same story as Michael. I have had a Ct scan and used antibotics for a month and 2 cortisone sprays and Singular, then had allergy tests done and was determined dust mite allergy is present. dr. prescribed Zyclor Cr to see if that helps otherwise allergy shots for years have been prescribed. Nothing has helped thus far.

I have severe Sinus problem. Took all kinds of OTC medicine ..none helped. I went to see an ent specialist who said I have a deviated septem and he could operate to straighten it and also said my sinus had got very severe. Did the Surgery but after one year same problems started. Thought I had Allergies but even the Allergy medicines didn;t help. Only PREDNISONE a steroid helped me with my sinus and I was able smell and taste. I couldn't take steroid continously and I'm still suffering. Any help advice is higly appreciated. I'm trying to get hold of SINUS BUSTER SPRAY ..they say it helps a lot. Well ..Good luck to me.

For Michael T New Haven, I too have lost my sense of smell. I lost it three years ago when I slipped and fell on black top that was wet. The nerves that connect the olfactory bulb to the brain I learned has been severed therefore I will not be able to smell or taste the rest of my life. I have learned the value of smoke detectors and gas sensors and really having a loving wife to be able to smell food that is in the fridge to let me know if the food is spoiled or not. Learning how to cook and be able to enjoy a different food variety has become an art of going by texture and using different seasoning. What I finally however found to be the most benificial is accepting the fact that I can t feel sorry for myself because I can t smell or taste I need to focure on the fact that I DID NOT lose my other
senses of sight and hearing in the fall, or my life for that matter. Learn that there is serenity in acceptance and try drinking milk shakes for a good flavor sensation.
