Support a street child
Title : Support a street child
Description : Story of a street child – M.Latha M.Latha slowly stepped on to the platform from the train in Kurnool Railway Station. Her broad eyes reflected her fear and confusion while she slowly staggered out of the station. With none to help and unaware of the destination the lean body just walked down the street. It was six hours since she has been trying to cope with the evil hunger. Not a paisa in hand, she looked helplessly at the beggars. ‘Shall I join them?’ An undesirable thought crossed her mind for a few seconds. She tried to control the wavering mind with immense struggle but, unable to resist the temptation, picked the banana peels thrown out of a hotel nearby and swallowed them eagerly. Overcrowded and full of vehicles buzzing busily, the road was terrifying for her to move on. She was so scared of the mob and the invasive traffic that she fled back to the platform. She halted at a corner on the platform to quench her thirst. Sudden slash of the lathi awakened her from the deep sleep. Her face grew pale at the sight of a policeman with a big moustache and fiery eyes. Strain and hunger of the past two days exhausted her completely. Her vision blurred, leaving her collapsed on the road. Nothing in the world was disturbed by this sight. Unconcerned passersby paid the girl no more than a glance. M.Latha lay down on the road unconscious, relieved from fear and hunger that had haunted her. “Hello! My child! How do you feel now? Are you ok?” some.…..voice…down the ear.,so sweet. M.Latha slowly opened her eyes. An angel at her side. With a merciful smile on her face, the angel was shifting Latha’s head on to her lap. “Try this juice my child, you seem very hungry.” Latha could hear the SERUDS Volunteer’s voice as she collapsed again. Latha is an orphan girl from orphanage at Hyderabad. A Nun by name Mary has been maintaining the orphanage with about 20 such orphans. But, unfortunately she could not raise resources and run the orphanage due to her old age. She has been trying to accommodate the inmates with some other orphanages. 5 including Latha were left. Meanwhile, the nun died and these orphans came on to the platforms. Latha get into the train at Secunderabad and reached Kurnool station. SERUDS volunteer picked her at railway platform and admitted the girl in Compassion RBC on 2nd December 2009 and supporting Rs.1000/- per month for one year with the kind support of GIVE INDIA. She is 10 years old and in 5th standard. Appeal: She need support to her education, boarding, lodging, clothing, bedding, educational material, health & recreation for at least 5 years costing at about Rs.15,000/- per year. We appeal & request the generous philanthropists to support the genuine cause of an orphan girl child.
